Matt DiCarlo is a New York City–area director who has worked on productions on Broadway, the West End, on tour across North America, and in Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Recent directing credits include the world premiere of The Comedy About Spies, which played a sold-out engagement at London's Noël Coward Theatre, won the 2026 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Play, and returns to the West End this summer at the Adelphi Theatre. He also directed Christmas Carol Goes Wrong, which played to sold-out audiences across the UK and at London's Apollo Theatre in 2025. The production will return this festive season with productions in the West End, on tour throughout the UK, in Los Angeles, and Australia. This September, Matt directs Jawbreaker the Musical, based on the cult-classic 1999 film, at Los Angeles' historic Hudson Backstage Theatre.

As International Associate Director of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Matt works alongside Tony Award-winning director Alex Timbers to oversee the creative integrity of productions worldwide, including Broadway, the West End, Hamburg, Utrecht, the North American Tour, and the World Tour.

Matt's longstanding collaboration with Mischief began with the original Broadway company of The Play That Goes Wrong. Since then, he has directed and supervised productions throughout North America and internationally, including multiple U.S. national tours, limited engagements in Chicago and Washington, D.C., and the long-running productions in London's West End and Off-Broadway at New World Stages.

Additional Associate Director credits include Tick, Tick... Boom! at the Kennedy Center (directed by Neil Patrick Harris), Sing Street at The Huntington (directed by Rebecca Taichman), the First National Tour of the Tony Award-winning revival of The Color Purple (directed by John Doyle), and the South Korean production of Beetlejuice The Musical.

Before transitioning to directing full time, Matt enjoyed an extensive career as a Production Stage Manager, working on Broadway musicals and on world premiere productions at Paper Mill Playhouse, La Jolla Playhouse, and American Conservatory Theater.

Matt is currently developing several new plays and musicals, he serves on the faculty of Columbia University, and is represented by Skyler Gray at The Gersh Agency.

He lives in South Orange, New Jersey, with his husband, Joey, and their Cairn Terrier, Metro. He loves cooking, is always in search of the perfect macaroni and cheese, has a massive and ever-growing collection of The Wizard of Oz memorabilia, and firmly believes Christmas Eve is the best day of the year.
